Title of Lesson: America Prepares for War
Goals and Objectives:
Goal: Students will understand the major developments that took place in American industry to mobilize America for the war.
Objective: Students will be able to list 3 different ways in which the American people prepared for the war on an exit ticket.

weaponry, communication, and medicine and the war's impact on the location
of American industry and use of resources.
Lesson Introduction: 10 min.
Students will watch 4-5 minutes of this youtube video about Rosie the Riveter and women of World War II. A class discussion will follow on women's contribution to the war effort which will lead to the lesson topic of America mobilizing for war.
Vocabulary: 10 min.
Teacher will go over the main vocabulary terms of the chapter. Students will write the definitions in their notebook. The vocabulary terms are: George Marshall, WAAC, A. Phillip Randolph, Manhattan Project, OPA, WPB, rationing.
Content Delivery: 5 min.
This lesson's content will be delivered through reading. The students will read in their textbook pg. 562-568 which is section 1 of the World War II chapter. Before reading the teacher will go over the headings and subheadings of the text to generate some ideas from the students. The teacher will ask a few questions based on the headings such as "how do you think industry will play a part in America preparing for war?"
Student Engagement: 15 min.
In pairs, students will read through the text, they will be engaged with filling out the worksheet below. Students will write down main ideas that come up across the text and also write any questions they have.
Demonstrated Learning: 10 min.
Teacher will monitor the students progress on the reading worksheet. Teacher will answer students questions about the reading. After the reading assignment is complete the teacher will lead a class discussion and ask students to either agree or disagree with statements about the reading such as:
Agree/Disagree: The OPA fought inflation by freezing prices on most goods.
Women did not play a significant role in World War II.
The WPB was responsible for converting businesses into wartime production

Lesson Closure: 5 min.
Students will write down 3 ways in which the American people prepared for the war through industry, rationing, the economy etc. Students will use this as an exit ticket at the end of class
Accommodations:
Vocabulary will be emphasized at the beginning of the lesson before the reading. A guided reading worksheet will help the students group important information together. The worksheet will help students chunk important information together giving them the best chance to learn the material.
